About wundertunes and our mission...
Submitted by wundertuner on April 29, 2007 - 01:58.Hi Folks! Just a short hello:
Wundertunes is a magazine for contemporary music and art, which is published as free content with creative commons licenses or other copy-left licenses. We will review creative commons music releases, netlabels and underground labels aswell as doing artist interviews... If you're new to the kind of licensing with creative commons, which was developed as open-source alternative for strict international copyright laws, please visit the creative commons website. For example, some artists are releasing their music or art under creative commons to get known to public in another, more direct way than 'usual' releases. Independent from the fact, that this website is non-profit, you are free to spend some money for the artists and labels out there. Most of them are using the paypal-donate button , the easiest way to collect some money for their hard work in the underground. Help spreading their music!

Electronica with experiments
Located between electronica, minimal, glitch and 8bit sound plus a small dose of experimentalism is the latest from muertepop, called Fake. It's from OTO, which is known as Marco Puccini from Florence, Italy. A nice trip into the world of electronica with a slightly experimental bias. Check out!

Dubstep from Newcastle
Deep groovy Dubstep isn't a great genre for netaudio in general. So it was very delightful to stumble upon this really good and well produced Dubstep from Psychonaught from Newcastle, GB. HIs release is called Geordie Stepper Vol.1 and was released by Sociopathrecordings , a netlabel from taiwan with a mostly crazy, noisy and fast output. Geordie Stepper Vol.1 contains 8 deep bleepy dubstep tracks ready to rock the floor. Try it!

Relaxed electronics with dark attitude
A new one by the Crazy Language label released by Huron – which is Steffen Schröder from Berlin, Germany. 13 solid deep tracks with well-crafted arrangements located loosely in the dark ambient electronica corner. Mostly driven by deep dark pads and dsp-ish beatwork. "If you get deeper into this album you will hear a slight and subliminal touch of darkness and it's absolutely stunning how these complete different attributes could be combined so impressively." Download is possible only as complete rar file.
Normaa - Fake Media (FPR014)

Experimental downbeat IDM
After a first album under the name " Normablock " to the French netlabel Signal Zero and a net ep to the German netlabel Jahtari, Normaa aka Eduardo Acosta is back with this release on FPR. The album is named FAKE MEDIA, "the result of the manipulated media, the current conflicts, the forgotten wars, poverty, and the dignity of the occupated lands and exploted countries. A travel between dub and IDM, exploring vocals and melodies, smooth and pain, red tears and dark hope. The digital drama and the war against wrong system and skills." Sounds kind like a contemporary electronic version of World-Music. The extraordinary blend of deep pads and strings, fragmented (arabic) vocals and abrupt beatworks sounds very new and fresh!
Protestant Work Ethic - Turned, and Turning EP (12rec045)

Singer Songwriter
Happy new 2008! Her comes the first 12rec release in this new year --- Protestant Work Ethic - Turned, and Turning EP. Protestant Work Ethic is Simon Usaty, one quarter of KES (alongside Bernard Bauch ) from Vienna, Austria. For his solo-project he only worked out great songs with acoustic guitar, banjo, cymes, accordion and little background percussion. But the main element in his songs for sure is his voice. I heard his voice the first time here and i can say that he's a great vocalist and singer. 'His voice has a certain moment of failure, still he's an awesome vocalist, on stage and on his recordings...'. With this release he steps into the independent Country & Western genre and although this is not my favourite music style i like this release a lot. It's warm, personal, a bit melancholy pop music with absolute hit potential.

Ambient fields
Here's a new one from Resting Bell - 'Polar living' by Lost Lanterns. This is the project of Ian Hawgood from UK and Ben Jones, who's living in Tokyo. They once met at university and worked together in different bands, now teamed up to work alone on their music using live instrumentation, field recordings and computers.

Italian dub
A polished juwel was dropped by aquietbump, a label based in southern italy. And this fine release comes from Paolo Picone aka Peak. Here he shows his addiction to dub-elements and fills the ear with deep dub constructions - 'buona notte' and 'looking around' are more 'classical' dub-techno style, 'a train to roots' and 'so quiet' have more ambient ambitions, still dubby. Very nice and again a new label to me...
