Nicolas Bernier - Ail et l’eau faille (NT097)

Pop-acousmatic tales

Nicolas Bernier from Canada has studied electro-acoustic composition at the University of Montreal. He's an ecelctic artist walking knee-deep in between acoustics and electronics. On his actual release on Notype he's balancing again between organic sound sources and digital processing. Using his guitar and other acoustic instruments aswell as electronics and found and processed sounds he creates his fragile and detailed music. His tracks are noisy, imperfect and very fragile, the text at the release page fits perfect: “To make machine music so imperfect that it would become more human than human, so we can’t tap the beat on a metronome but instead feel it the way you should feel it like a trek on the rocks that almost made you trip yesterday but all this naivete how could it be so you don’t care good neither do I” Besides, he created the duo Milliseconde topographie and invented the artist collective Ekumen .

Deymare - Conquistador (ART010)

Deymare - Conquistador (ART010)

Moody house from finland

A deep solid soothing spring-house release from Deymare. The first track 'conquistador' let you fall into solid (but known) deep house-chords, distant guitars and a driving organ-line. The other two tracks 'smalltown poem' and 'the way back' are way more sophisticated with deeper attempts. Electric pianos, deep basses and stringpads in harmony let you dance through warm spring nights. Nice one!

RMF - Rhodesia / Erronel (XGN032)

Drum & Bass from Austria

I forgot this one! First: I'm not a drum & bass expert - but i like this one because it reminds my to a very very old drum & bass compilation CD. Exegene blows out a nice two-tracker from RMF, who is actually from Vienna, Austria.

Nuthre - Bloops for Alice (NT096)

Nuthre - Bloops for Alice (NT096)

The converse of easy-chillin' music

nuthre (Jeff Morton) strikes again with this groundshaking release on the famous no type label. This one brings loads of heavy input for your brain. Aliased pianos, strange turnarounds, cheap drums, all together cutted and pasted to a unsettled collage. Genius or madman? Masterpiece or crap? You decide...
Other as on his timeless fantastic release 'All Too Capable Of Sustained Backwards Glances' on the panospria label, here he's testing the extremes. Cutted fragments, pasted to a collage of desired dreams. Often he tries more than the average listener could bear. But try to follow him. Change your viewpoints. This release is a statement, a chunk of concrete with diamonds in it, this one is about loosing control and different ways to get it back, about trust, hope, and finally: about alice. Possibly after hearing it (more than one time :-) nothing will be as before. But: you decide!

VA - Electronica Unplugged 2 (aerotone006)

Wonderful Electro-acoustics

Aerotone released their sixth album, a compilation of various artists, full of yearning chunks. The songs on 'Electronica Unplugged 2' are coming straight from the artists hearts, whether they were made with or without electronics... Starting with 'Es kann nicht ewig Winter sein' from Bersarin Quartett , a very slow, melancholic and soulful song, sending out deep, dark feelings. Again a perfect soundtrack for a dusty venice day in november. Reminds me a bit of Bohren und der Club of Gore. But this records differs in the kind of melancholism, the next one,'The Youngest One Had A Rose In His Mouth' and 'Épilogue' feels much more postive, like lost songs for the 'Le Fabuleux Destin d'Amélie Poulain' soundtrack. In fact, every song stands for itself, is different from the other. But all together on this album are outstanding. Chapeau! The fine graphics for this release were made by Kheira Linder from Berlin, be sure to check her fantastic work at her homepage. Absolut recommended download!

Trópico esmeralda - Rifas, juegos y espectáculos (sern19)

Weird abstract jazz studies from colombia

Ok, haven't heard yet of this colombian label - Series Media from Medellin, Colombia. And: ok, this one is strange, unusual and wide out of the ordinary. Forget what you know about harmonics and rhythmic structures. This release may open another door. Whereto? You decide! You will be confrontated with some kind of deformed music, some abnorm turnarounds, which maybe will your hand move the mouse to the skip button. But stop! Try this music. Is it jazz?

Fabryka - Handful of dust Remixes (DHS0030)

Remixes for a classy track

What a powerful and well-balanced remix ep! First, you should know the full release Testing Toys from fabryka which was released on dharmasound beginning of april. One of the best tracks, Handful of Dust, a truly pop-hit, is now interpreted by several artists from the dharmasound roaster like Musetta, Acidhead, Kurregomma and Reverse Engineering. And they all do a very very good job. Acidhead's version is a resilient, fluffy independent pop dream, Musetta interpreted the original track in wonderful swing, Reverse Engineering worked out a bit more industrial touch and finally Kurregomma flashs an ode with some 8bit tone-generators and let the sid chips burn. Plus an extra-fine Fabryka live jazz cut with acoustic setup at the Controfestival. Absolut, absolut wonderful! Download more than recommended!

OCP - Descansar Um Bocadinho (qnb003)

Deep Micro-Dub Pearls from Portugal

Qunabu , a netlabel from Gdansk in Poland, released a very deep and perfect sounding dub ep from Joao Ricardo, who already released some stuff on MiMi Records, Serein, Testtube and Sinergy Networks. Descansar Um Bocadinho is about deep structures, basses, chords. Imagine you walk through airy curtains of cryptically noisy background pads in best basic channel manner. Deep. The sound structure is falling to pieces to a become one again a few seconds later. Fragile. Wonderful. I heard this sound often, of course, but this one is pure perfection.
